[origin: WO0058802A1] A method and controller (10) are provided for controlling a fluid flow rate along a line (21). Fluid is fed along the line to a control valve (20) having a controllably variable aperture. Pressure is sensed by pressure sensing means (14) in the line upstream of the valve. Instantaneous flow rate of the fluid is determined based on a knowledge of the sensed pressure, of the valve aperture setting, of the flow characteristics of the fluid and of the fluid pressure downstream of the valve. The aperture setting is varied to match the flow rate with a required flow rate. This is done by control means (16) responsive to the sensed fluid pressure and to the aperture setting.
