[origin: WO9966930A1] The present invention relates to compositions and methods for treating elevated blood cholesterol in a mammal while counteracting the occurrence of potentially adverse side effects such as myopathy. The compositions useful herein comprise the combination of a pharmaceutically effective amount of a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitor (hereafter "HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor") and a caspase inhibitor to a mammal in need thereof.
