A composite plate, for Pb/PbO2 batteries with bipolar electrodes, comprises electronically conductive wires which consist of lead or lead alloy at least at their surfaces and which are arranged in a regular network perpendicular to the plate faces, the wires being covered with an adherent acid-stable polymer and having a total volume of less than 4% of the total plate volume.
