[origin: WO0003702A1] A new pharmaceutical preparation comprising at least one amine, or an analogue, a precursor or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof capable of being taken up by and stored in mast cells and released therefrom upon binding of an allergen to a receptor on the mast cells. This pharmaceutical preparation is intended for treatment and/or prevention of allergy. A method for treatment and/or prevention of allergy, comprising administration to a patient of an effective amount of at least one amine, or an analogue, a precursor or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof that is taken up by and stored in the patient's mast cells, and released therefrom upon binding of an allergen to a receptor on the mast cells. The above mentioned substance must not be histamine or a substance with histaminergic effects. It is preferably a biogenic monoamine, or an analogue, a precursor or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and most preferably 5-HTP or a derivative thereof.
