A metallic component is provided with a protective covering by producing a slip of a mixture of a binder and a powder containing Ni, Cr and/or Ce, applying the slip onto the component surface, adding ceramic particles before or after slip application, drying at room temperature to 300 deg C, and aluminizing the slip layer. Preferred Features: The slip is formed from a MCrAlY powder and the added ceramic particles consist of BN, SiC or Al2O3.
