[origin: DE19830829C1] A criterion for determining whether the quantity of a regeneration agent being supplied to the NOx storage catalyst in a regeneration phase must be modified in order to achieve optimum efficiency of the emissions control system is derived from the time characteristic of the output signal (US) of a measuring sensor connected downstream of the NOx storage catalyst, during and after the regeneration phase. Said output signal (US) is picked off on two electrodes on the amperometric NOx measuring sensor and shows the two-point behaviour which is necessary for the method.
