[origin: DE19919872A1] The invention relates to a brake servo unit (1) for a motor vehicle, comprising a brake servo unit housing (2), at least one vacuum negative-pressure chamber (13) and at least one additional pressure chamber (14), which can be prevailed upon by an ambient pressure whenever an actuating pedal for the brake assembly of the vehicle is operated. The negative-pressure chamber and the pressure chamber are separated from one another by a displaceable piston (9). According to the invention, the brake servo unit has at least one additional vacuum negative-pressure chamber (17) which can be connected to the pressure chamber, using a shifting device (18). The inventive configuration provides the necessary negative pressure, in order to operate the brake servo unit for a sufficient number of braking procedures, even when used with motor vehicle engines which can no longer provide the necessary negative pressure for normal operation of a brake servo unit. The inventive configuration can be constructed within the construction space available in conventional brake servo units and thus requires only minimal additional costs.
