[origin: WO0000427A2] The invention relates to a method for producing synthesis gas from methane by making use of a bed of a metal oxide which is reduced by reaction with methane to a lower-valence oxide or to the corresponding metal, wherein the reducible oxide is reoxidized with air in a separate step, and wherein in the reducible oxide a (precursor of a) reforming catalyst is mixed, so that the reaction of methane with steam and with carbon dioxide can proceed in the same reactor.
