[origin: DE19832999A1] A method of switching of data received over a packet- oriented data transmission path, in which data packets (ATM-21, ATM-22) sub-divided into sub structure elements (SE) are directed over the packet-oriented data transmission path. From one conversion unit (UE), an assignment of data received over the packet-oriented data transmission path is made to channels of a time-slot oriented TDM data format formed out of a periodic sequence of individual channel information segments, in such a way that the data assigned to one sub-structure element (SE) is assigned to at least one channel of the time-slot oriented data format (TDM). Switching of the data converted into the time-slot oriented data format results via a time-slot oriented switching matrix module (KN).
