[origin: WO0004965A1] The invention relates to a binding, notably for cross-country skis, for fixing a front section of a shoe (10) such that during use the sole (23) of said shoe can be freely lifted off. According to the invention the shoe (10) is fixed to the binding (11) by hooking the sole (12) into place in the area between the ball of the foot and the front end (13) of the sole, notably in the toe-joint area (14) of the sole (12), on the one hand, and by holding down the front end (13) of the sole, on the other hand. In addition, elements are provided for which laterally guide and, more particularly, stabilize the sole (12) or shoe (10) during use of the binding.
