[origin: DE19835089A1] The invention relates to a back-up or intermediate roller for producing a flat rolled product,especially a strip, in a rolling mill. The inventive roller consists of a cylindrical core with a rotationally fixed coaxially enveloping tubular jacket joined thereto. Axially and hydraulically displaceable support bodies are arranged between the jacket and the core of the roller and support the jacket of the roller against the core. The support bodies are composed of at least two annular pistons that are symmetrically mounted in relation to the middle of the roller and are sealed with respect to the core (2) of the roller and the inner side of the jacket (5) of the roller. The annular pistons consist of several ring-shaped supporting bearings (A-K) that are arranged on the outer periphery of said pistons and distanced from each other in a longitudinal direction of the roller (1). The inner surface of the jacket (5) of the roller can be placed against said supporting bearings.
