[origin: DE19931997A1] Polyurethane (PU) binder comprises PU prepolymer prepared in a two-stage process using isocyanates both with and without nitrogen only in isocyanate groups. Polyurethane binder comprises: (a) an isocyanate-containing polyurethane (PU) prepolymer(s) with at least one having at least two differently bonded types of NCO groups or two prepolymer have pairwise at least two differently bonded types of NCO groups, where at least one type is less NCO reactive than the other; (b) an at least difunctional isocyanate(s) with no N excluding NCO groups; and (c) an at least difunctional isocyanate(s) with an average functionality of at least two and having at least one N per isocyanate not part of an NCO group. Independent claims are included for: (i) the preparation of the above binder by reacting an at least difunctional isocyanate and a polyol(s) to give a prepolymer, further adding another at least difunctional isocyanate(s) and optionally a further polyol and finally adding an isocyanate as per (c) above; and (ii) an adhesive comprising an isocyanate containing PU binder as above and an isocyanate reactive compound(s) of mol. wt. up to 50000.
