Abstract (en)
High purity strongly adsorbed gas, e.g. carbon monoxide, is separated from a gas mixture containing one or more other gas components, e.g. hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen and possibly other impurities, by a two-phase pressure swing adsorption process comprising the following steps: (a) passing the feed gas mixture at superatmospheric pressure through an adsorbent which selectively adsorbs the carbon monoxide from the feed gas mixture, thereby producing a first carbon monoxide depleted gas stream (Figure 2, step 2); (b) depressurising the adsorbent thereby producing a carbon monoxide enriched gas steam (Figure 2, step 6); (c) purging the adsorbent with carbon monoxide enriched stream from step (b), thereby producing a first purge effluent (Figure 2, step (9)); (d) purging the adsorbent with carbon monoxide product, thereby producing a second purge effluent (Figure 2, step 10); (e) depressurising the adsorbent, thereby producing the carbon monoxide product (Figure 2, step 11). <IMAGE>
