[origin: WO0001648A2] The invention provides a process for the preparation of macrocyclic ketones by a reaction sequence wherein one step is the radical addition of ketone to alkene of the form (1), where R3 = H or lower alkyl, R4 = H or lower alkyl, m = 4 to 8, or form (2), where R1 = alkyl, R2 = H or alkyl, n = 4 to 8. The process can be used to produce macrocyclic ketone mixtures, particularly those containing muscone which are useful in producing fragranced products.
