[origin: US6437815B1] In a printing apparatus (18) used in the tachograph (3), there is a firm association between the thermal print head (53) and the transport roller (47), with an outlet opening (26) of an output channel (58) being situated in the region of the closure gap of a carriage (19) in the printing apparatus (18), the recording material (48) running in a relatively straight line between an insertion channel (70) and the outlet opening (26), and a cover (57) being provided which permits access to the thermal print head (53) and to the transport roller (47) and forms a delimiting wall of the output channel (48).
