[origin: EP1104006A2] A flat heating bulb has an envelope (ENV) with a base (BOT) and emitting surface (ES). It contains a radiation source (LEM) which may be a flat filament or a number of coplanar filaments. If the filaments are raised to incandescence the envelope may with advantage be filled with an inert gas. The base of the envelope (BOT) is coated with a reflecting layer (REF) which intensifies the emitted radiation
