[origin: WO0003725A1] The present invention provides methods for evaluating the biofunctionality of natural products. Since natural products typically comprise a variety of active components, both identified and unidentified, and normal dosage is by ingestion, methods of the invention simulate normal physiological digestion and absorption from the digestive tract. Methods are disclosed which provide for evaluation of biofunctionality and quality assurance testing for natural compositions such as herbs, herbal extracts and formulations derived therefrom, even though active components and their specific activities may remain unidentified.
