[origin: DE19836973A1] An access and start authorization system for a vehicle has a control apparatus testing the authorization for unlocking and locking the vehicle doors with a portable transponder in an access question-answer dialogue. It releases or locks the vehicle doors. The portable transponder after the access release can be loaded into a transponder mounting (20) located inside the vehicle. The transponder in the transponder mounting introduces a start/travel authorization question-answer dialogue with the control apparatus (10). With a positive start/travel authorization question-answer dialogue, the start/travel authorization for the vehicle is released. The start/travel authorization question-answer dialogue can be executed with question and answer signals distinguishable from the access question-answer dialogue.
