Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1106738A2] The safety barrier consists of a series of separate concrete sections (1), each having one or more through channels to receive threaded reinforcing rods (2). The end surface (3) of each section is flat and lies perpendicular to its lengthwise axis, and each channel has a conical recess in the section end face to receive a conical thrust element and a bolt on the reinforcing rod while still allowing two end surfaces to fit perfectly together. Instead of a thrust element and nut the recess in a section end face can also be used to receive a continuation tube between sections. The reinforcing rods are tensioned by the nuts to hold a number of concrete sections together, and can be removed to allow the sections to be moved to another site. Depending on requirements the sections can be made from materials other than concrete, e.g. metal or plastic.
