Abstract (en)
A fire protection storage safe, for documents etc. has several concentric walls with the spaces packed with a thermal barrier material. This is a thermal absorbing salt with a binder, e.g. vermiculite. The safe has an outer steel shell (2) several millimetres thick and an inner shell (6) of hard plastic or metal. An intermediate wall (3) of hard plastic or steel, can be perforated, and separates an outer vermiculite packing (54) from an inner packing which is a mixture of salt and binder. The salt undergoes a phase change when heated over long periods, and thereby absorbs a large amount of thermal energy.
