[origin: EP1107651A2] A first choke (26) wired in series to a gas discharge lamp (10) limits a current (IL) through this lamp to a first current corresponding to high power in the lamp. A second choke (28) wired in series to the lamp connects to the first choke to limit the current to a second current corresponding to low power in the lamp. A controllable semi-conductor power regulator (30) is wired in parallel to the second choke.
