[origin: WO0012794A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for sorting the fibres of a fibre assembly (10, F1, F2) which is delivered to a fibre sorting device (30, 38, 75, 76, 58, 63). Known devices, which use air to sort the fibres on a non-woven fleece held on both sides, have insufficient separation power. The invention therefore provides a method and a device offering a greater degree of separation. To this end the fibre assembly is clamped by means of clamping elements (44, 3, 75, 76, 58) at right angles to its direction of transport and the free end (E1) extending beyond the clamping point (K1, K2) is subjected to an air flow which is capable of removing and evacuating unclamped components (such as short fibres, neps, dust, etc.) from the free end.
