The device has a first electrode formed by or attached to a wall of a washing drum (4) and at a first potential and a second fixed electrode (9) at a second potential at a small distance from the first electrode. The distance varies with load and the capacitance corresponding to the distance is measured by a measurement device (16). Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of measuring the weight of a washing load in a washing machine.

In einem Wäschbehandlungsgerät, insbesondere in einer Waschmaschine, wird die Beladung einer Wäschetrommel (4) dadurch erfaßt, daß eine Kapazitätsänderung zwischen einer ersten, durch die Wäschetrommel (4), insbesondere deren Mantelwand (10) gebildeten Elektrode oder einer ersten auf der Außenseite der Wäschetrommel (4) angeordneten Elektroden und einer zweiten ortsfest angeordneten Elektrode (9) gemessen wird, wobei die beiden Elektroden (9, 10) auf verschiedenen elektrischen Potentialen liegen und durch ein Dielektrikum voneinander getrennt sind. <IMAGE>
