[origin: WO0012806A1] The invention relates to a protection device for irons, comprising a device (13) for detecting movement of the iron and a detection device (14) for detecting whether any objects are near the surface of the iron (10a). In the event that the device (13) for detecting whether the iron (10) is not in use determines that the iron (10) is not moving in accordance with signal (B) and the detection device (14) detects an object near the surface of the iron (10a), a logic unit (12) interrupts the supply of power to the heating device. The device (13) for detecting when the iron is not in use and the detecting device (14) use the same transmitters (17) and receivers (18) for measuring, temporally offset from each other.
