Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0014402A1] The invention relates to a starter system for an internal combustion engine (1), comprising an electric starter (4), a battery (9, 9') for said starter, a device for measuring the temperature of the starter battery (9, 9'), a functional electronic power unit (7c; 13) that actively regulates the value of the discharge current of the starter battery (9, 9') that is drawn in order to start the engine or prepare for the starting thereof, and a control device (11) that provides the functional unit (7c; 13) with the discharge current that is to be drawn, whereby the maximum discharge current value at low battery temperatures is lower than for high temperatures. The invention also relates to an associated method for starting an internal combustion engine (1).
