[origin: DE19839190A1] A filter element consisting of a filter material with a casing, a front wall that closes the casing on an upper side thereof and which is provided with a through opening, in addition to a bypass valve for opening and shutting said through opening, whereby the bypass valve comprises a plastic valve housing that receives a valve body and a valve spring that loads the valve body in the direction of a valve seat. In order to produce a filter element that can be assembled more easily and at a lower cost, the valve housing has a valve stem guide and a separate supporting element is provided. The valve body and the valve spring can be introduced into the valve stem guide for assembly and the supporting element can subsequently be fixed to said valve stem guide.
