Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0015598A1] The invention concerns an improved method for treating a reaction medium derived from the direct oxidation of hydrocarbon into carboxylic acid, using molecular oxygen or a gas containing same, in liquid phase, in a solvent and in the presence of a catalyst dissolved in the reaction medium. The method is characterised in that it consists in: when the reaction composition medium allows it, decantation into two liquid phases: a higher non-polar phase and a lower polar phase; distillation of said lower phase, or as the case may be the whole reaction mixture, for separating the distillate and the distillation tail comprising the acid formed, the catalyst, the heavy compounds, at least part of the solvent and optionally the intermediates and by-products of the reaction; purification treatment by oxidation, using molecular oxygen or a gas containing same or using oxygen donors, of the previously obtained distillation tail; distillation of the solvent and intermediates and by-products of the reaction possibly still in the mixture; crystallisation of the carboxylic acid produced in the reaction; re-crystallisation in water of the carboxylic acid produced from the reaction.
