Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19843201A1] The waiting time required for a caller who calls a subscriber with several telephone numbers is optimized by means of a device and method for producing a telecommunication link between a caller (1) and a called subscriber (2) via at least one telecommunication network (3, 4; 13, 14, 15; 14, 15), whereby the called subscriber (2) can be reached on several numbers (5-8) that are stored by said telecommunication network. Successive attempts (5-8) are made to set up a communication link between the caller (1) and the called subscriber (2) via the stored telephone numbers (5-8), whereby said telephone numbers (5-8) are dialled until said communication link is established between the caller (1) and the called subscriber (2). When the telecommunication link is successfully established, the telephone number (5-8, 5-7, 6, 7, 6-8) on which the called subscriber (2) could be reached is stored by the telecommunication network. In the case of successive calls to the stored telephone numbers (5-8) of a called subscriber, the stored telephone number (5-8) on which said subscriber could reached when the last successful telecommunication link was established is dialled as a first (5-8) or second (6-8) telephone number.
