[origin: DE19845365A1] The invention relates to a switchable silent ratchet which is provided with an output shaft (3) which is rotational relative to a housing (1). Said ratchet is provided with locking elements, especially a locking ball or a locking roller (4) which, in their locking position, elastically rest in locking slots (16). Said locking slots are defined by a smooth locking track (15) of the housing (1) and by locking ramps (13, 14) of the output shaft (3). A drive shaft (2) is also provided for driving the output shaft (3). The locking elements are moved by a device into a release position in which the locking elements are disengaged so that they can drive the output shaft (3). A slider (7) is connected to the output shaft (3) in a rotationally fixed manner. It is also connected with the housing in positive fit when the locking elements are in locking position. In the release position of the locking elements, said slider does not engage with the housing (1).
