Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19845109A1] According to the invention, a Q3 platform is provided for evaluating a presentation layer data unit which contains application-oriented messages for at least one application process running in the Q3 platform, codes according to a predetermined coding protocol, and which receives the verification of the structure of the data unit with regard to the conformity with the coding protocol via an association established on a Q3 interface between the Q3 platform and a partner Q3 platform. Provided that the coding of the data unit is free of errors, user data contained in the data unit is decoded, and application-oriented messages determined therefrom are forwarded to the associated application process(es). In the instance, however, an error in the coding is detected with regard to the user data, the evaluation is terminated and an error message with regard thereto is routed to the relevant application process, whereupon an error response which indicates the coding error is generated in the form of an application error message on the side of the application process and is sent to the partner Q3 platform.
