[origin: WO0022608A1] In a method of speech processing digital signals representative of the speech are provided for speech encoding, the digital signals including a first set of coefficients. A second set of coefficients is calculated for speech recognition. The first set of coefficients is used in the calculation of the second set of coefficients. A corresponding apparatus comprises speech encoding means (2; 41) for providing digital signals representative of the speech and including a first set of coefficients, and speech recognition means (3; 42) in which a second set of coefficients is calculated. The speech recognition means is adapted to use the first set of coefficients in the calculation of the second set of coefficients. In this way the memory requirement for a device including speech encoding as well as speech recognition is reduced considerably.
