[origin: EP1122208A2] The method involves providing at least one item (6a-6c) with characteristic data regarding the strength of the transported material in the clamping force direction using an encoder (9), detecting the data using a receiver (8) associated with the transport device (4) and controling or regulating the clamping force accordingly.
