[origin: WO0118497A1] The invention relates to devices for measuring the mass of the intake air pertaining to an internal combustion engine for instance, whereby measuring is carried out via a conduit. According to prior art, a tubular body is provided in said conduit and a temperature-independent measuring element is provided in the tubular body, whereby no sufficient guarantee is given that dirt particles which are carried by the intake air and liquid droplets are kept away from the measuring element. According to the novel device, a protective sieve (28) is arranged in the tubular body (8) and upstream in relation to the measuring element (25). Said sieve extends in an inclined manner in the direction of flow (5). Dirt particles and liquid droplets are deposited at the protective sieve and are guided to a downstream end (30) of the protective sieve in order to be guided past the measuring element (25) and reach the inner channel wall (10) of the tubular body (8) via an outflow opening (31).
