[origin: DE19854009A1] A system for supplying an inhalable aerosol contains an inhaling device (10) which has a rod-shaped housing (12) with a rear, mouth-end area (16) and a front area (14). A substrate holder (26), which can be heated by a heating device (30, 38, 44, 50), is situated in the front area (14) of the housing (12) and is accessible via a loading opening (24) that is preferably located at the front end (23) of the housing (12). A flow channel (34) leads from the substrate holder (26) to the rear end of the housing (12). The heating device (30, 38, 44, 50) is configured for generating heat by thermal or catalytic combustion. A substrate portion (1) that is configured for introducing into the substrate holder (26) through the loading opening (24) contains aerosol-forming material inside a casing which has an air inlet and an aerosol outlet.
