Abstract (en)
The superfinishing process of the cylindrical surface of a part (1) consists in placing an abrasive application wheel (4) so that its axis (5) is perpendicular to the part's axis (6). The wheel's lateral surface (7) is then supported against the cylindrical surface and the wheel is rotated and translated (10) along the part's axis simultaneously with the part's rotation (11) at speeds such that the entire cylindrical surface is machined longitudinally (3) by the abrasive along a helical path whose successive coils (12) overlap.

Procédé de superfinition de la surface cylindrique d'une pièce 1 qui est destinée à être montée dans des guides circulaires et à être animée d'un mouvement de translation suivant son axe par rapport auxdits guides, consistant à placer une roue d'application d'abrasif 4 de manière que son axe 5 soit perpendiculaire à l'axe 6 de la pièce 1 et que sa surface latérale 7 soit en appui contre ladite surface cylindrique, à entraîner la roue 4 en rotation autour de son axe et à animer la pièce 1 et/ou la roue 4 de mouvements, simultanément d'un mouvement de translation 10 suivant l'axe de la pièce et d'un mouvement de rotation 11 autour dudit axe à des vitesses telles que ladite surface cylindrique soit usinée de son intégralité longitudinalement (3) par abrasif suivant une trace en hélice dont les spires 12 successives se chevauchent.
