Abstract (en)

The invention refers to a process for the removal of lignin from lignocellulose containing material, whereby the material prior to a pulping process is treated with a delignifying gas comprising gaseous compounds containing oxygen atoms. The delignifying gas can be a gas containing chlorine dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide or sulphur dioxide or mixtures thereof.
