Production of chiral aldehyde (I) by enantioselective hydroformylation of a prochiral substrate (II) comprises using a complex of a transition metal and a chiral phosphino-phosphite ligand of formula (III) containing fluoroalkyl substituents as catalyst. R1-R6 = phenyl rings optionally substituted by one or more X; R7-R10 = optionally present phenyl rings, optionally substituted by one or more X X = -(CH2)x(CF2)y-F, or a branched isomer, and is present one or more times on one or more of rings R1-R10; x = 0-5; y = 1-12.
