[origin: US2001032190A1] A mail identifier for storing information on mail includes an identification mark having a storage device for storing information and/or franking data associated with the mail. The storage device is contactlessly and wirelessly read. There is also provided a mail processing system processing the mail having the mark. A writer can contactlessly and wirelessly write information onto the mark, and a reader can similarly reads information associated with the mail. The device for processing items of mail can include a franking machine and/or a computer. A method of using of an identification mark includes placing an identification mark at an item of mail, storing at least one of information and franking data associated with an item of mail in the identification mark, and contactlessly and wirelessly reading the identification mark. A method of processing items of mail includes similar steps and simultaneously checks the validity of the franking data.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine draht- und berührungslos lesbare Identifizierungsmarke (5) zur Speicherung von Information sowie ein Postbearbeitungssytem zum Bearbeiten von Postgut (8) mit einer Lesevorrichtung (41) zum Lesen von dem Postgut (8) zugeordneter Information. Derzeit werden eine Reihe von Informationen in einem digitalen und maschinenlesbaren Frankierabdruck auf ein Postgut aufgedruckt. Die druckbare Informationsmenge ist jedoch dabei begrenzt. Um eine größere Menge von einem Postgut zugeordneten Informationen auf einfache Weise dem Postgut zuzuordnen, wobei Maschinenlesbarkeit gewährleistet sein soll, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgesehen, eine draht- und berührungslos lesbare Identifizierungsmarke, z. B. ein passives RF-ID-Tag (5) zur Speicherung von dem Postgut (8) zugeordneten Informationen und/oder Frankierdaten und zur Anordnung in oder an dem Postgut (8) auszugestalten. Ein Postbearbeitungssystem weist erfindungsgemäß eine entsprechende Lesevorrichtung (41) zum Lesen der auf der Identifizierungsmarke (5) gespeicherten Information auf draht- und berührungslose Weise auf. Die Erfindung betrifft außerdem auch eine entsprechende Schreibvorrichtung zum Schreiben von Information auf eine solche Identifizierungsmarke, eine Vorrichtung zum Bearbeiten von Postgut, insbesondere eine Frankiermaschine, sowie ein entsprechend ausgestaltetes Verfahren zum Bearbeiten von Postgut. <IMAGE>
