Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19849748A1] The invention relates to a switch point for flat, flexible postal articles in a sorting machine, whereby the postal articles are conveyed in a squeezed manner between two conveyor belts. According to the invention, the deflection element is comprised of two rigid partial deflecting elements (1, 2) which are adjacent in a direction of conveyance, which are interconnected in a fixed manner outside the path of the mail and which have a common pivotal axis (3). The common pivotal axis (3) is situated outside of the conveyor belts (4, 5), said belts continuing while diverging from one another in the switch point area, in the front part of the switch point area with regard to the direction of conveyance. According to the position of the switch point, the corresponding postal article is guided in the selected direction between one of both partial deflecting elements (1, 2) and the respective outer conveyor belts (4, 5), whereby the other partial deflecting element (1, 2) is situated completely outside of the conveyor belts (4, 5) which diverge from one another in the switch point area.
