[origin: WO0023938A1] An input device for a computer comprising a graphic user interface, a display device which is connected to the computer and adjusted in order to reproduce content that is generated by the computer in a display area. The inventive device also comprises a camera device that captures at least one part of the display area and can be connected to the computer. Said camera device picks up at least one beam that is directed into the display area by a transmitter and produces a signal that is characteristic of the location where the beam hits the surface of the display device and/or of the trajectory and the direction in which a beam hitting the surface moves.he characteristic signal is used to control the execution of a computer program in the computer. This enables at least one user to act upon events that are reproduced on the surface (screen) of the computer or to trigger commands, irrespective of the size of the display area and the spatial distance separating the user from said area.
