[origin: WO0031889A1] A wireless communications system is described. In one embodiment of the invention, a set of demodulation resources demodulates a set of signals that can transmit data at a set of rates. For signals transmitting at lower data rates, a single demodulation resource demodulates an entire signal. For signals transmitting at higher data rates, two or more demodulation resources each demodulate a portion of the signal. Advantageously, the first portion of the higher rate signal is substantially different than the second portion.
