[origin: WO0124524A1] A television system comprises a plurality of television programme sources (14-i to 14-n) and an associated data base (15) which contains data concerning the programmes for an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) which is to be transmitted to a receiving device (3). Additionally a critics data base (16) which contains ratings by individual critics forming a panel of critics which review a given type of programme, for example sport, music, drama, current affairs etc. is provided and the ratings of individual critics are transmitted together with the EPG data. The ratings of individual critics are kept separate and are used in the receiving device for predicting which programmes are likely to be of interest to the viewer.
