[origin: EP1134081A2] The method involves using a unit, which is arranged in the conveying direction in the space in front of a printing zone (15) formed by a rubber blanket or printing cylinder (11) and a sheet guide cylinder and is axially parallel to the sheet guide cylinder. The unit has at least one chamber with openings for blast air exits, to press the sheet on the assigned surface. The chamber forms a tapering entry gap to the printing zone. The air delivers a high pressure level on the sheet in the conveying direction of the sheet before the printing zone in a first pressure distribution area (16). A lower pressure level is applied in a second pressure distribution area 922). A high pressure level is applied in a third pressure distribution area (23), which is larger than the pressure level in the first pressure distribution area, at least directly in the area of the printing zone.
