[origin: WO0032101A1] A method, apparatus and kit are claimed for maintaining a level of the therapeutic anticoagulation in a patient's blood resulting from administration of anticoagulants. A desired range of a blood coagulant characteristic is established for the patient (INR range). The blood coagulant characteristic of the patient is determined and transmitted automatically to a surveillance location in the form of digital data. The transmitted blood coagulant characteristic data is then compared to the desired range. A caregiver is informed if the transmitted blood coagulant characteristic data is outside the desired range, or if testing and reporting do not take place in a timely fashion.
