Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0029849A1] The present invention relates to an immunometric method for the determination of prion protein (PrP) in a body tissue or body fluid sample from a non-bovine mammal, said method comprising the steps of subjecting the PrP to a treatment in order to facilitate its extraction and binding to antibodies, and subjecting the PrP from the foregoing step to a) a capture antibody bound or capable of binding to a solid phase, and b) a detecting antibody, and quantifying the signal from the detecting antibody bound to the solid phase. Furthermore, the invention concerns a method for diagnosing a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) in a mammal, and a method for screening blood samples, particularly blood samples obtained from human blood donors, to investigate whether a sample is infected by a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE).
