[origin: EP1136144A1] The press comprises upper and lower stages (142, 144) the lower stage inversely cradling an inflatable membrane (154). A thin rebated plate (168) covers the membrane and supports layers of linen (164) and a gripping material (166) which cooperates with a lower felt sheet (152). On inflation of the membrane the metal laminations (20',20'') are gripped by the lower felt sheet and a second felt sheet (146) similarly attached to the top stage An Independent claim is made for a braking assembly which may be used to convert an existing press.
