Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1138408A2] The hollow bodies are fabricated at least partially by hydrostatic forming of cold-formable material within a forging die. A panel blank is cut to size, the cut blank is formed and the opposite edges are welded together to form a three-dimensional pressure-proof body with at least one opening. The body is hydrostatically expanded in a forging die, and at least one closure part is fastened to it by welding. The body is pressed into a flat oval shape in the die, and is filled with pressure fluid before this process. A peripheral collar is formed around the opening during hydrostatic expansion, to serve as welding socket. The body is esp. a motor vehicle fuel tank.
