[origin: EP1138748A2] The closure unit (10) is for closure of a pipe opening (12) surrounded by a closure seat (18) with a first ring-shaped sealing surface mating with a second, also ring-shaped sealing surface of a closure element (16). The first sealing surface takes the form of a circular ring, and the second sealing surface forms a part of a sphere. Preferred Features: The closure element (16) is joined to a closure mechanism (20) by a Cardan or spherical joint (38). It is floatably mounted on the seat (18). It is pressed against the seat by a force which, in particular, has a constant value. Such a force is produced by means of a load (56) located vertically above the closure element (16). The first sealing surface is a ring-shaped sealing edge. The second sealing surface is shaped in such a way that it faces away from the pipe opening (12). The seat takes the form of a seating strip (22), while the closure element has a sealing strip (30). Both elements are changeable.
