A toner mark is produced on a electrographic support for intermediate images (4, 130, 144). The toner concentration is adjusted in a developing station (8) by means of the measured value. Transfer of the toner intermediate image from the reprinting surface (130, 144) to the recording medium (2, 114) is at least temporarily prevented in the period between the production and the removal of the toner mark. The invention especially provides two operating states.
