A pair of cheek plates (1,2) of a mechanical press are mounted on an elastically deformable element such as a spring (25). The spring is increasingly deformed during the crimping of a contact (12) onto a wire using the mechanical press, until a force acting on the contact reaches a maximum value. The force acting on the contact builds up continuously with increasing deformation of the spring.

Eine Kontaktverarbeitungsstation mit einer mechanischen Pressvorrichtung zur Befestigung eines Kontaktes an einem Kabel weist eine erste Pressbacke (1) und eine von einem Antrieb (5) gesteuerte zweite Pressbacke (2) auf. Die erste oder die zweite Pressbacke (1, 2) ist federnd gelagert. Für die federnde Lagerung ist ein elastisch deformierbares Element vorhanden, beispielsweise ein deformierbarer Pleuel (9) oder eine Feder (18; 25; 32). Das elastisch deformierbare Element wird während des Crimpvorganges zunehmend deformiert, bis die auf den Kontakt einwirkende Kraft ein Maximum erreicht hat, wobei die auf den Kontakt einwirkende Kraft mit zunehmender Deformation des elastisch deformierbaren Elementes kontinuierlich zunimmt. Die Federkonstante des elastischen Elementes ist so weich angesetzt, dass die Kraft, mit der der Kontakt am Kabel verpresst wird, annähernd unabhängig von Schwankungen der Drahtdicke ist. <IMAGE> <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
